Stage 6
Position fix from three stars
Each star gives one line. Where three lines cross, that's your camp.
Six steps per star
- Shoot it: take 3–5 sights, note UTC to the second, and keep the one that fits the others best.
- Ho: reading − index error, ÷ 2, − refraction (T6).
- GHA♈︎ at that second: T1 + T2.
- AP: latitude 69° or 70°. Pick the longitude so that GHA♈︎ + longitude comes out as a whole degree (LHA♈︎).
- Hc and Zn from T8 (row LHA♈︎, column for your star).
- Plot: from the AP, move Ho − Hc along Zn (away from the star if negative), then draw the line of position across it at right angles.
Pick stars from the same row of T8. It gives three stars spread around the sky, all at a good height for the tray.

Index error +2.4′ (on the arc), −22 °C. The camp's true position was hidden: 69°09.0′ N, 19°33.0′ E.
